FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What's the difference between coaching and counselling?
Wellbeing coaching is generally more focused on what's happening for you now and how you'd like things to move forward. We might explore thoughts, emotions, patterns or how things have showed up in the past, however I take a future-focused approach. My sessions are not counselling or therapy, and I'll always be open with you if I feel another type of support would be more appropriate.
What happens during an adult wellbeing coaching session?
There isn't a set format every session follows. We'll usually start by catching up on what's been going on and decide together what would be useful to focus on. From there, sessions might involve talking things through, exploring thoughts, feelings or patterns, understanding what might be underneath what's happening, or looking at practical tools and strategies that could help. After each adult coaching session, I'll send you a personalised takeaway sheet with key things we've explored, anything useful to remember and some practical steps or ideas to focus on.

What do sessions look like for children and young people?
Sessions are relaxed and shaped around the young person. There's no pressure for them to come in knowing what to talk about, and I'll help guide the session based on what's going on for them and what they might need support with. Some young people love to talk, while others find it easier to chat whilst doing something else. We might use drawing, activities, games, visual tools or practical exercises depending on their age, interests and what works for them. I want sessions to feel comfortable and engaging, rather like another lesson or appointment. Over time, we will explore what's going on, help them understand themselves and their emotions better, and build confidence, resilience and practical ways of coping.
How many sessions will I need?
There's no set number of sessions, as everyone comes for different reasons. Some people come for support with something specific and only need a small number, while others find it helpful to have support for longer. There's no commitment to a set number - we'll regularly check in with how things are going and whether the sessions still feel useful for you or your young person.
Where do sessions take place?
I offer in-person sessions in both Bromsgrove and Worcester, as well as online sessions via Microsoft Teams. Full location details will be provided when booking.
Will I be involved in my child's sessions?
Parents and carers are an important part of supporting a young person, but it's also important that they feel sessions are their own space. I'll always explain confidentiality at the beginning, so both you and your child know what will and won't be shared. I won't routinely share everything we talk about in sessions. Your child may choose to share things with you themselves, and where it would be helpful to involve you, I'll usually talk this through with them first. If I'm worried about their safety, I will involve a parent or another appropriate person as per my safeguarding policy.
